Girvan Business Association Marks Milestone
The Girvan Business Association (GBA), established in September 2023, is celebrating a successful first year with significant achievements. Created to support local businesses, foster collaboration, and promote networking opportunities, the GBA has grown rapidly, with over 50 active members.
A major milestone was the formation of a strategic leadership group led by Chairperson John McCreath. The GBA also formalised its role as a sub-committee of the Girvan Town Team, solidifying its governance. Early initiatives focused on promoting Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce membership benefits and exploring funding options like the Community Wealth Building Fund.
Regular meetings have showcased schemes providing opportunities for local businesses. Highlights include the award-winning “Dog Friendly Scheme,” the “Girvan’s Story” project, which secured £170,000 for heritage development, and initiatives such as the UNESCO Biosphere’s "Proud Supporter Scheme" and "Scotland Loves Local".
Advocacy has been a priority, with outreach to parliamentary candidates and a town centre tour with Elaine Stewart MP, where the Strategic Group discussed members’ concerns about Dalrymple Street and progress on the new banking hub.
