Regenerating Girvan
Our Partnerships with the Community
Our Partnerships to date.
South Ayrshire Council
We have an ongoing partnership with South Ayrshire Council, regularly liaising with council officers and members at our monthly Town Team meetings and quarterly collaborative meetings with key Girvan groups.
This partnership allows us to discuss and shape priority projects in Girvan identified by local organisations and members of the public.
The input from SAC and key stakeholders was vital in the development of a ‘Girvan Place Plan’ which outlines the key actions required to make Girvan ‘A Better Place to Live’. By working with the council and local groups, we have already implemented some of the projects identified to make the promenade and beach more user-friendly for all abilities and age groups.
The council’s appointed consultants, Create Streets, collated feedback from local workshops which resulted in the document ‘Putting the heart back into Girvan – A strategy and action plan for a precious place’. The Town Team is helping to make the document proposals a reality.
Girvan & South Carrick Locality Planning Partnership
The Town Team is an active member of this group, attending monthly meetings to ensure local voices are heard and represented when shaping health policies.
We contributed to the ‘Mentally Healthy Communities’ workshops which resulted in an action plan to improve the mental well-being of the Girvan and South Carrick community.
We played a key part in the planning and delivery of events designed to raise awareness of the investment contribution towards new defibrillators in the town and provide training in their use.
Scotland’s Towns Partnership and the creation of a Girvan Business Association
The Girvan Town Team has joined Scotland’s Towns Partnership, a national organisation that provides access to nationwide networking, professional advice and support.
In September 2023 we will be launching Girvan Business Association which will benefit from the support of Scotland’s Town Partnership and Scotland Loves Local Campaign.
Other Key Partnerships
Stumpy Corner Steering Group - Support was provided to assist with the drafting and review of their Regeneration Grant Fund Stage One Application to regenerate Stumpy Corner and surrounding areas.
Go Girvan - A Girvan Town Team Trustee provides representation on the Go Girvan board to help shape the strategic direction of community-led tourism. In addition, the Girvan Town Team Coordinator engages with the Go Girvan Development Officer to ensure a complementary approach to joint working.
Government and Council Representatives - We engage with both the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments to highlight issues in Girvan. We regularly meet with council officials to help shape local council activities, including investment in the town. The Town Team acts as the Secretariat in quarterly collaborative meetings with South Ayrshire Council and key Girvan groups.
We are a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group on Towns which provides an opportunity to network, shape innovative approaches and share best practices.
Development Trusts Association Scotland – A Thriving Community-led Network - This is our third year as a provisional member of this organisation which provides support, advice, information and networking opportunities.
Accessible Heritage Trail
Thanks to funding from the Coastal Communties Fund, Girvan Town Team was able to create an accessible heritage trail.
The new lecterns and information boards are located along the promenade and harbour. They form part of a bigger seafront regeneration project being carried out in partnership between South Ayrshire Council and Girvan Town Team.
